Learn more about WordPress 3.0 though this video of Jane Wells, the community manager at Automattic, giving a presentation at WordCamp Denver 2010. Jane walks through new features of Wordpress, including the new default theme, “Twenty-Ten,” and custom post types and custom post taxonomies. She also answers general questions about WordPress as an open-source project and what that means, and fields questions about plug-ins, caching, and what’s next for WordPress.

Ning to BuddyPress Importer

When Ning.com announced they would be going to a premium model, this forced many Ning Network Owners to look for a low cost solution to run their blogs and social networks. BuddyPress, a fork of the popular Wordpress CMS, is becoming the defacto social networking software that people are turning to to migrate from Ning to BuddyPress. Digital Strategy Works is working with the both the Ning Exporter, provided by Ning to back-up all of your network content, as well as the Ning to BuddPress importer, developed by Boone Gorges, a Wordpress/BuddyPress developer in New York City. Wyclef Jean Commencement Ceremony

On Sunday, May 23rd, Western Connecticut State University (wcsu.edu) commemorated its new $97 million School of Music and Visual Arts with a commencement address by Grammy Award-winning recording artist and humanitarian, Wyclef Jean. WestConn, one of the four campuses operated by Connecticut State University, has carved a niche for itself by fostering its commitment for music and arts and was searching for a commencement speaker who had notable contributions in the field of arts and humanity. On behalf of the University, DSW secured Wyclef, who was selected to receive an honorary doctorate for his contributions in music and his humanitarian efforts benefiting Haiti through his Yelé Haiti foundation, an organization that is contributing to rebuilding Haiti after the devastating earthquake struck the country earlier this year.

DSW launches HipHopMuseum.org

The crew at the National Museum of Hip Hop faced a dilemna with their web site. A web development company had donated design and development to the non-profit, but a key employee driving the project left the company and the site went unfinished. NMoH turned to DSW to complete the site. We found that the underlying code was based on tables and not standards compliant CSS. Not only could this affect page load times, but it would also take a toll on SEO, and it created issues with the layout of the blog, which was severely broken.

DSW launches LoveOfLearning.org

DSW loves learning and loves kids. When Love Of Learning Montessori school in Long Island needed to redevelop their site navigation and information structure, DSW drew up a new plan to ensure the parent’s could access important information like directions, contact information, and even the daily lunch menu. We created new imagery to refresh the look and feel, without having to rebuilt from scratch. We also added plug-ins for video, photo galleries, analytics, SEO and more. The site is now infinitely more easy to navigate. Parents love it, kids love it, and we love it too!
